Questions and Answers from Shopify Presentations with Retail NZ
Can I connect my existing POS system to Shopify?
Maybe! There are so many different POS solutions out there so in the first instance I would check out our app store to see if an integration exists there. Secondly I would reach out to your current solution provider to see if an integration exists. If not, the next steps would be to reach out to a Shopify expert to hire to create an integration for you. Here is the link to our expert marketplace. You can filter by budget, region or even primary language.
Does Shopify and Vend work well together?
Yes I think Vend and Shopify work well together. You connect one of your Vend outlets/registers to your Shopify account (which you need to subscribe to and pay for separately). When the connection is made, the products linked to that Vend store can sync in your online Shopify store, i.e. you pick which ones should show online too, and the inventory levels from the Vend store will then show in the online store. The integration requires you to manage all products in Vend, not Shopify. If you have any questions about this integration, please contact Vend. - Here is a link to the Vend | Shopify integration
I have a need for a Shopify expert regarding my Vend product descriptions. Shall I go to the Shopify expert site or have you got a contact for me I can talk to….. Shopify Partner that understands Vend product coding?
Have you tried reaching out to our support? I would like to know more about what the specific issue is as it could potentially be solved by our gurus [support link] or might actually need an expert. The expert market place [expert link]is a great resource and so is our Shopify community in general. [community link] - Here is a Vend expert - https://hellodigital.nz/ that might be able to help as well.
What other Eftpos payment companies are you developing with? I see Windcave / DPS - we supply Ingenico and verifone Eftpos and neither have a link?
Our POS does not currently integrate with payment terminals in NZ. You can still use Shopify’s POS, you just need to accept payments separately to the app (and mark as paid in the app). Therefore you can use any eftpos terminal you like.
I'm not quite clear on what is Shopify pos, do I have to have a Tablet or smartphone to run it?
In short yes as long as it's an up to date device! Shopify POS is an application for iOS and Android devices that you can use for transactions in a physical store or pop-up setting. Find products, process orders, take payment, swipe credit cards, produce receipts, and control it all from your iPad or mobile device. All the background management of your store is done from your Shopify admin, which you can access using any browser. Here is a link to the [POS FAQ]
How do I set up add on/compliment products to a product listing on Shopify?
Great question! There are multiple ways to do this but the one that comes to mind is using apps.
I have found one that I think would work best. It's called Product Addons
Is it easy to transfer data from an existing Website?
It is relatively simple if you have all your affairs in order. This guide outlines how to migrate your store to Shopify from another platform. You can use it as a starting point and as a reference resource to make sure that you don't forget any key setup tasks.
Here is also a link to the app Cart2Cart that i mentioned, to help you migrate to Shopify
Do you have workshops or resources for integrations with other pos software ....I assume will be list in the apps sections?
I would reach out to the pos software provider first as they would be the experts on how they integrate with our platform.
Will the gift cards continue on the $29plan after covid-19 is gone?
Great question! I don't have a definitive answer for that. Personally I hope we do but that is not my call to make.
How easy is it to integrate Shopify into your existing website eg Weebly, Squarespace, Wordpress?
In just a few clicks, you can add an online store to your Weebly or any other website and start selling products.
The Shopify Buy Button makes building your own secure shopping cart simple. Just copy and paste the embed code on any page of your website and you’re good to go.
The Shopify Buy Button is a great way to try selling a few items before building a full online store down the road. You can customise it to match your web design, and it’s fully responsive so it looks great on screens of all sizes. The only thing to keep in mind is you will be managing 2 separate platforms for your website.
We use Idealpos and there is a link to Shopify through an API. How long would it take to set up a link between the two softwares?
I had a look at the integration and it looks pretty straightforward. I would set up your general settings in Shopify first. Then follow this documentation [here].
Does Shoplify POS integration with EFTPOS terminals for seamless transactions without manually entering each transaction?
Not today, however this is a certainly a growing merchant request we see. Integrated payments are a little more regulated and complex in our area of the world, though our mission states we aim to “make commerce better for everyone”, so you can rest assured knowing this is a challenge we’re keen to solve.
Our business deals with suppliers which we order products from that we may not keep in stock unless a customer orders it from us, does Shopify have a system that would allow us to process this?
At the most basic level you can take an order for the product and then send your supplier a purchase order for said product. As long as you have stipulated to your customers that the lead time for purchasing this item will take x amount of time longer than normal.
You could even set up your business to send orders to specific suppliers who will send out orders on your behalf and you won't even have to touch the product. This is called drop shipping.
Here is a great help guide on how to set this up.
Can we run Shopify without the inventory running?
Yes you do not need to track your inventory if you choose not to. Or you can choose to track only some of your products.
How does Shopify work with Kudos?
Yes Kudos does work with Shopify. Here is a link directly from the Kudos website.
Is it possible to upload previously recorded customer loyalty information to Shopify?
It really depends on the information you want to put across. For example if you had some brief notes or a few tags for certain customers then yes uploading customer information should be easy with CSV’s.
Otherwise you will have to use additional loyalty apps to transfer this across. Here is a [link] to all the loyalty program apps at Shopify.
I have started a Shopify account but am not live yet, would you be able to check it out before I go live?
I can totally do that and it would be my pleasure to! Reach out to me via Shopifynewzealand.co.nz or you can join our office hours [here]
